Difficulty in a colouring page is really about the size of the smallest enclosed shape. A three-year-old needs big areas and clear boundaries; a seven-year-old is bored by them and wants somewhere to be precise.

  • Three to five: the cake or the balloons. Big shapes, quick wins, everyone finishes together.
  • Four to six: the tower of presents or the animal party. Patterns and characters, more to hold their interest.
  • Six and up: the party table, where the cupcakes, cups and hats are the whole appeal.

How do I print a birthday coloring page?

Open the sheet you want and press Print. The page hides everything except the drawing and sends a single full-page sheet to your printer. If you would rather keep the file, press Download and you get the full-resolution image to print later or take to a print shop.

Do they print on A4 and US Letter?

Both. The drawings are tall portrait images with a wide margin built in, so they scale to either paper size without cropping the border. Choose "Fit to page" in your print dialog if your printer offers it.

Which sheet works best as a party activity?

The cake or the balloons. Both are drawn with large open shapes, so a table of five-year-olds all finish at roughly the same time, which matters more at a party than it sounds. The party table and the animal party are much denser and are better for the quiet hour after everyone has gone home.

Can I put my child’s name or age on one?

What paper works best?

Plain printer paper is fine for crayons and coloured pencils. For felt tips or markers, use the heaviest paper your printer will take, otherwise the colour bleeds through and marks the table underneath, which at a party is a real consideration.
