The sound it makes
A short pop of air with the lips: "p" as in penguin. Hold a scrap of paper in front of the mouth and it moves.
How the letter is formed
Straight down, well below the baseline, back up to the top, then round to the right and into the middle.
What it gets confused with
Reversed with "q", the same way b and d are. P is the one that appears in far more words, which is a useful tiebreaker.
Words that start with P
The stem of the lowercase p goes below the line while the bowl stays above it. Worth saying out loud: children often draw it sitting on the line like a b.
